The Chicago Manual of Style does not prescribe rules of formatting an essay or research paper; the following are generally held standards for title pages, print size, margins, and spacing.
Lecturers do not usually give extra marks for the formatting of an essay. They are more interested in the content. But all readers are influenced by the presentation of a text. If your essay looks like an essay and is easy to read, the reader will be more likely to have a favourable attitude to what you have written.
MLA Formatting for an Essay 2013
When formatting an essay it is important to have all of the information in the right spots. Even if the particular information is not designated a spot as per your format example, the flow of the paper, the order of the information, is important to the essay itself. If you follow the format correctly but put information out of order than the essay will not make sense and that too is part of the format itself. It is not the specified part as per the teacher’s format preference but it is still part of the overall format of the essay.
